Alkor Bio Group has launched 16 new allergens, including two allergen components of Timothy meadow grass

Alkor Bio Group - a leader among Russian companies which develop and manufacture allergens for in vitro allergen diagnostics expanded again the range of allergens at the end of January. This time Alkor Bio Group's Laboratory of Allergology transferred to the production 16 allergens, including two recombinant allergens of Timothy meadow grass. Thus, today Alkor Bio Group produces 436 allergens and allergen mixtures, 10 of them are allergen components: native and recombinant. The term “allergen components” is used for products based on purified protein components of allergens isolated from a natural source (native allergens), or biotechnological produced recombinant proteins. It should be reminded that currently Alkor Bio Group is the first and exclusive domestic developer and producer of allergen components for mass use in in vitro allergen diagnostics.

Among Alkor Bio Group's new innovative products there are: three food allergens (gum-arabic, chestnut, sardine – iwashi), three allergens from pollen of trees (Sambucus nigra, Castanea sativa, Pseudotsuga taxifolia), two allergens of weeds (Ambrosia psilostachya, Franseria acanthicarpa), and also cotton fiber, wood dust allergens of birch, oak, pine, elm and a mixture of wood dust.

The new allergen components are rPhl p 1 Phleum pretense and rPhl p 12 Phleum pratense. The choice to develop these allergen components was dictated by the fact that Timothy is one of the most widespread herbs in the world and it is one of the main allergens among a group of pollen.

Phl p 12 is a cross-reactive allergen and belongs to the protein family of profiling. Phl p 12 cross reacts with Profilins of different plants. There are Profilins with a high degree of homology to Timothy meadow grass: European Olive, doob, the Jewish postelnicu, Sunflower, Date palm. Profilins play an important role in an allergy to banana, pineapple and other exotic fruits. That is, if a patient has an allergic reaction to protein rPhl p 12 Timothy meadow grass (Phleum pratense), there is high probability of the same reaction to all of the above-listed allergens.

Earlier Alkor Bio Group developed and transferred to the production such allergen components as rBet v 1 birch (Betula verrucosa), nArt v 1 wormwood (Artemisia vulgaris), nArt v 3 wormwood (Artemisia vulgaris), and also allergen components of egg protein nGal d 2 ovalbumin, nGal d 1 ovomucoid, nGal d 3 Conalbumin (ovotransferrin). Works on expansion of panel allergen components of pollen and food allergens as the most popular for the diagnosis of an allergy will be continued in Alkor Bio Group.

Allergens, allergen mixtures and allergen components are used with test system for diagnosis of an allergy produced by Alkor Bio Group – the kit "AllergoEIA-specific IgE". It is intended for quantitative determination of specific IgE in human serum by the method of enzyme immunoassay. The test system for diagnosis of an allergy and all the allergens produced by Alkor Bio Group are registered in Federal Service on Surveillance in Healthcare and received CE-mark.
