Sequoia Genetics specialists will report on Bioinformatics Summer School

The first Bioinformatics summer school set up by Bioinformatics Institute (Saint-Petersburg) and the MSU School of Bioengineering and Bioinformatics (Moscow) will be held from July 29th till August 4th. The program of the event is aimed at students and young scientists studying bioinformatics and undergraduate and postgraduate students specialized in math, engineering and biology. Registration for the school is for free.

Leading Russian and foreign scientists working in the field of bioinformatics are invited to give lectures. Specialists from Sequoia Genetics, a Saint-Petersburg biotech company, will speak with report "Clinical bioinformatics: challenges and prospects".

"At present just a few institutions graduate bioinformaticians and just some of them are world class professionals. The Institute of Bioinformatics was set up this year by Algorithmic Biology Lab. http://bioinf.spbau.ru/en/ The main goal of the Institute is to train competitive staff in the field of bioinformatics. Bioinformatics summer school is another one initiative directed to the development of bioinformatics education system in Russia. Sequoia Genetics has a close partnership with Algorithmic Biology Lab and now with the Institute of Bioinformatics: we teach molecular biology, provide research work for students and give lectures on related bioinformatic events.
On the upcoming session we decided to tell about our vision of clinical bioinformatics since it is a promising market and the tendencies are becoming apparent. The problem of highly qualified staff is one of the main issues. We hope that during the summer school we will be able to find brilliant young scientists who will be interested in realization of our projects", says Alexander Pavlov, Sequoia Genetics team leader.

Scientific program of the summer school will include different topics: assembling and analyzing the genomes and transcriptomes, NGS data analysis, epigenetics, comparative genomics, computational mass-spectrometry, molecular evolution and other.

Travel grants are available on competitive basis.
